Ministry can be a journey of deep joy and meaning, but it can also bring seasons of weariness, disillusionment, difficult questions, and change. Companions on the Way: Ancient Wisdom for the Road Ahead offers pastors, ministry leaders, and followers of Jesus a day to step away from the demands of everyday life and find space for learning, reflection, connection, and renewal.
Hosted by The Good Table at Crieff Hills Retreat Centre, this one-day retreat will explore what it means to follow the Way of Jesus amid the complexities of the Canadian church and wider society. Participants will be invited to hold together the realities of burnout, injustice, inclusion, and reconciliation alongside experiences of grace, beauty, hope, and the living presence of Christ.
Drawing on The Good Table’s grounding conviction that “we make the road by walking,” the day will create space to consider the Christian journey as one of ongoing listening, unlearning, repentance, and becoming more deeply rooted in the sustaining love of God.
The gathering will feature keynote speakers Dr. Bradley Jersak, Fr. Joash Thomas, Adrian Jacobs, and Rev. Melissa Burke, with Elle Pyke, Executive Director of The Good Table, serving as host. Through teaching, contemplative practice, conversation, and reflection, participants will have opportunities to encounter ancient wisdom while considering what faithful life and ministry might look like on the road ahead.
The hope is simple: that participants leave with new companions for the journey, fresh learning and unlearning, a deeper awareness of God’s grounding and expansive love—and a much-needed chance to exhale.
Ministry Forum is pleased to be a sponsor of this gathering and to support opportunities that help ministry leaders connect, reflect, and find encouragement for the journey.
