Organized by the Albert M. Wolters Centre for Christian Scholarship at Redeemer University in partnership with the Andrew Fuller Center for Baptist Studies, the Reformed House of Studies at Wycliffe College, the Evangelical Theological Society Ontario & Quebec region, and the Centre for Patristics and Early Christianity at McMaster Divinity College
Redeemer University will host Defending Christ: Celebrating 1700 Years of Nicaea, a two-day academic conference exploring the historical context, theological significance, and lasting legacy of the Council of Nicaea. Marking the 1700th anniversary of the council, the event will examine how the Nicene Creed affirmed the central confession of Christ’s divinity and continues to shape Christian faith and practice today.
Featured speakers include Dr. Stanley Porter (McMaster Divinity College), Dr. Stefana Dan Laing (Beeson Divinity School), and Dr. Megan DeVore (Colorado Christian University). The program includes plenary lectures, paper sessions, and a panel discussion on the relevance of Nicaea for the Canadian church today. Dr. DeVore’s Saturday evening lecture on early Christian art is free and open to the public.
