Why aren’t more people amazed by God’s grace? We continue to receive “grace upon grace” (1 John 1:16), and the world’s need is clear. Still, many seem repelled by the church and its message, sometimes with good reason. On the 250th anniversary of the hymn “Amazing Grace,” we reflect on what grace might mean today for polarized nations, divided communities, and the church itself. If God’s love in Christ really is unconditional and freely given, and the Holy Spirit is our ready helper, what can the church do better to communicate this?
The 2023 Lester Randall Preaching Fellowship focuses on what God is doing, on our good works as an expression of grace, and on the significance of, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12.9.) Many excellent leaders will give testimony to the role of grace in preaching. Together we will discover, no matter where our journey takes us, that we have far more “ways to sing God’s praise than when we first begun”.
