Strong Roots: Contemplative Prayer & Practice

What might it look like to cultivate a prayer life that truly sustains you?

Strong Roots: Contemplative Prayer & Practice invites participants into the rich and diverse traditions of contemplative prayer, from the early Church to present-day practices. This course is designed to help participants deepen their relationship with God, self, and the world through intentional spiritual practice.

Grounded in Scripture and theology, the course explores a wide range of contemplative practices, including:

  • Ignatian Exercises and the Examen

  • Centering Prayer

  • Lectio Divina

  • Praying with Icons

  • Labyrinth and walking prayer

  • Nature-based spirituality

Participants will not only learn about these practices but also experience them firsthand, developing a sustainable and meaningful personal rhythm of prayer.

The course also draws from global voices and diverse traditions, encouraging reflection on how contemplative practice connects with justice, embodiment, and anti-racist discipleship. It invites participants to consider how prayer shapes not only personal spirituality but also engagement with the world.
