Hymn Society
The Hymn Society in the United States and Canada is dedicated to fostering congregational singing as an integral component of worship. Founded in 1922, the organization supports and promotes the development of new hymn texts and tunes and values learning about the origins of words and music. The Society's mission is realized through encouraging supportive relationships and networking, promoting news and developments in congregational song, and enlivening worship by providing performance practices that enhance the congregation’s singing experience.
The Hymn Society functions as an ecumenical resource for promoting congregational singing by creating awareness of various traditions and styles, collecting and sharing hymnic data, and modeling community-based events. It encourages songwriting and research in hymnic subjects and supports vibrant congregational singing that reflects contemporary life and thought.
