Transitional Ministry Pathways

All ministry is transitional.

Congregations are always navigating seasons of change—whether leadership shifts, cultural transitions, or rediscovering identity—and pastors need tools to lead faithfully in these contexts.

As part of the Transitional Ministry Education Consortium of the Presbyterian Church (USA), TMP offers the Art of Transitional Ministry certification courses (Parts 1 and 2), which have trained over 200 leaders from multiple denominations across eight time zones. These courses combine theological reflection with system analysis, equipping leaders to enter congregations thoughtfully, assess needs, navigate conflict, and guide healthy transitions.

In addition to formal training, TMP offers Continuing Virtual Cohorts to provide ongoing conversation and peer support. These cohorts build on the foundations of the certification courses and use case studies, group dialogue, and personal reflection to keep leaders resourced for the challenges of transitional ministry.

What the Resource Includes:

  • Art of Transitional Ministry Parts 1 & 2 – synchronous certification courses with CEUs.

  • Continuing Virtual Cohorts for ongoing peer support and applied learning.

  • Courses rooted in real-life ministry practice, led by a team with 120+ years of combined pastoral experience.

  • Training that meets or exceeds denominational requirements for interim/transitional ministry.
