Disability Inclusion Kit
Faith communities are called to welcome everyone, but churches often lack the tools to include people with disabilities in meaningful ways. The Disability Inclusion Toolkit from PCUSA is a great first step for congregations who want to fill that gap. The kit includes resources designed to help leaders assess their church's current practices and take steps toward full inclusion—socially, spiritually, and physically.
The toolkit emphasizes that accessibility isn’t just about ramps or elevators. It’s about relationships. It’s about creating spaces where people of all abilities are seen, heard, and invited to participate fully. Churches are encouraged to audit both their facilities and their culture, using clear tools to identify barriers and set goals. The toolkit also challenges leaders to rethink how they speak about disability, how they structure participation, and how they support leadership among people with disabilities.
Churches will also find practical help like printable resources, worship ideas, guides for disability-friendly communication, and checklists for planning inclusive events. Many of the materials are ready-to-use and don't require special training.
What this resource includes:
A full congregational accessibility and inclusion audit
Quick sheets on language, leadership, communication, and policy planning
Resources for building peer support, especially in youth ministries
Worship planning tools, including accessible hymn and liturgy recommendations
Links to external training and support organizations
